Trouble is one of two Red Foxes that call the Edmonton Valley Zoo their home. Red Foxes are the largest fox and they are the most common and widespread fox. Such beautiful and amazing animals and I am honoured to have spent so much time brushing this beauty into creation. I definitely feel I put my heart and soul into this painting. From the William Morris inspired pattern (which evwry painting in Painting for Conservation will feature) that is designed around the ecology of the fox to the modeling of the fox itself.
The Pattern
Beaked hazelnuts (the only native nut tree in Alberta) and their leaves, walnut sphinx moths and their caterpillars, Blue Jays, and American Crows. The caterpillar eats the leaves, the birds eat the nuts and the caterpillars, and the fox eats them all.
Painting for Conservation
Painting for Conservation is generously hosted by the Valley Zoo Development Society and is located at the Conservation Station in the Saito Centre of the Edmonton Valley Zoo.
50% of animals selected for painting are at the zoo, 44% are featured on the conservation carousel, 56% are threatened or endangered in some way, 100% are Canadian, and almost all are Albertan.
